resources. Here are names of our engagement team and board advisors:

Dr. Shin is currently a part-time faculty member at Eastern Washington University and Bellevue Community College, WA. Before that, she was an assistant professor at Kean University, NJ. founded in 1855. Kean University now produces the largest number of teachers in NJ. Dr. Shin received her doctorate from Child Development and Family Studies at Syracuse University with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education, where she had been an instructor. She has written numerous of publications in top notch journals covering language development from infancy to primary grades, teaching strategies for young children, and cultural issues in parenting and education. Some of her published works include: ¡°Play and early development and education: The instantiation of parental belief systems¡± chapter in O. Saracho & B. Spodek (Eds.), Contemporary perspectives in early childhood education in 2003, ¡°I mmigrant fathers: The tasks of unpacking the cultural pathways to intervention¡± chapter in J. Fagan & A. T. Hawkins (Eds.), Interventions for Fathers in 2003, ¡°Reading aloud to infants and toddlers in childcare settings¡± in Early Childhood Education Journal in 2001, ¡°Sociocultural contexts of dramatic play: implications for early education¡± chapter in K. Roskos & J. F. Christie (Eds.), Play and Literacy in Early Childhood in 1999, etc. Since 1988, she has researched the early childhood education from every angle in Korea and the U.S., and analyzed the issues with keen interests.

Dr. Honig is a Professor Emerita of Child Development at Syracuse University. She has had an illustrious and proactive career in academia and has been a frontier in infant/toddler care. Her leadership and visions were instrumental in the development of the infant/toddler care in the U.S. She is called, ¡°mother of infant/toddler care¡± and invented the words, ¡°caregiving¡± and ¡°caregiver.¡± She has done extensive research and written many books and articles on infants and toddlers, language development, parenting, training of preschool childcare providers, how to enhance quality child care practices, preschooler social development, fathering, grandparenting, and the effects of divorce on children. Annually, she teaches an intensive workshop for caregivers of infants and toddlers, and she has lectured widely. Dr. Honig is a New York State licensed psychologist and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and of the Society for Research in Child Development. Previously, she served on the Samsung Welfare Foundation as a board member. She is a member of the Board of Bright Horizons Child Care and on the advisory boards of many journals and childcare organizations.

Dr. Roopnarine is a professor of Child Studies and Early Childhood Education at Syracuse University . He is a supporting faculty member in South Asian Studies and Statistics at Syracuse . He has also taught at Cornell University, The University of Wisconsin, The Pennsylvania State University, Utah State University, and The City University of New York. He was an Indo-US Submission Senior Research Professor of Psychology at the University of Delhi and a visiting scholar at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica . His ¡°Approaches to Early Childhood Education¡± book is in its fourth edition and was recently translated into Chinese. It is one of the most popular textbooks in early childhood education programs worldwide. Forthcoming books are: Families in Global Perspective (Allyn & Bacon) and Childhood and Adolescence Across Cultures (2 volumes, both with Prof. U. Gielen) (Praeger). He has conducted research on father-child relationships across cultures, parental beliefs about childrearing and education, and issues of schooling and immigrant families. He has published widely in the area of child development and early childhood education. He has worked in collaboration with The University of the West Indies and UNICEF in Jamaica on issues of fathering and has been asked by UNICEF and the Ministry of Education in Guyana to revise its national early childhood curricula.

Dr. Johnson is a professor of early childhood education at Penn State and was a visiting Senior Research Fulbright professor at the National Hsin-Chu Teacher©ös College in Taiwan and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at New Mexico State University . He is lead co-author of the first text book to integrate research on play, early education and child development, Play and Early Childhood Development (1987), and Children©ös Play in Diverse Cultures. Currently, he is a USA representative on the Scientific Committee of the International Council for Children©ös Play, and he has been the President of The Association for the Study of Play since 2004.

Dr. Essa is a professor of Human Development and Family Studies and of Early Childhood Education at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she has taught for more than 30 years. She is the author of several early childhood education textbooks, which are widely used in the United States and abroad.  Her Introduction to Early Childhood Education is in its fourth edition, while the popular Practical Guide to Solving Preschool Behavior Problems was recently published in fifth edition. The latter book has been translated into Chinese and French. Dr. Essa also published A Preschool Curriculum: From Developmental Model to Application. She has conducted and published research related to quality of childcare, teachers' guidance and discipline methods, children and death, and a number of other topics. Most recently, Dr. Essa completed a comprehensive study of the childcare work force in her state, which involved developing a demographic profile of those who work in the field, an in-depth observational study to measure the quality of care, and an economic analysis of results. This study is being used as the basis for policy changes in the state. She teaches courses related to preschool curriculum, child guidance, the development of preschool children, multi-culturalism, and other topics related to early care and education. She was instrumental in designing and implementing an early childhood education program for university students at her institution.
